The Real Estate Growth Checklist for Agents
What would it take to completely change your life? Don’t say, “making more money.” And don’t say, “to get some help.” Let’s be a little more specific than that.
We’ve helped scale the businesses of tens of thousands of real estate agents.

Two weeks ago, we talked about figuring out what you really want out of life. If you took the time to write it down, then you probably came up with some things that are purely personal to only you. But no matter what you wrote down, there are a few steps I could guarantee would get you there faster – and could all be completed within the next year.
In this blog, I’m going to give you a checklist of five essential things you need to figure out to prepare yourself for growth because the agents who are going to succeed in this environment will be the ones who have checked all these boxes before the ball drops.
Ready to get started? Or actually, are you ready to get ready to get started? Let’s go…
What is a real estate growth checklist?
A real estate growth checklist is a structured list of tasks or action items designed to help businesses or individuals achieve growth and success in specific areas. These checklists are typically created based on best practices, industry standards, and proven strategies for growth. They can cover various aspects of business or personal development, such as marketing, sales, customer acquisition, product development, financial management, and more.
A growth checklist serves as a roadmap or guide, outlining the steps that need to be taken to reach specific growth goals. It helps prioritize tasks, track progress, identify potential obstacles, and ensure that essential actions are not overlooked. By following a growth checklist, businesses and individuals can streamline their efforts, stay organized, and work towards sustainable growth over time.

Decide Your Morning and Nightly Routines
You’ve heard me say it before and I’ll say it again: “Tell me your habits and I’ll tell you your future.” The way you start every day will determine the way you end your year. And the way you end your night will determine how you start every morning.
I start every morning routine by taking what I call my MEDS:
- Meditation
- Exercise
- Diet
- Supplements
This is how I start every day with energy, focus, and the mindset to create whatever I choose. I’m not a doctor, so I can’t tell you what you should be doing for your diet or what kinds of supplements to take, but I do know a doctor (the leading brain health doctor in the country, actually) and if you need some inspiration, I recommended you check out this episode of my podcast.
Choose a Book to Read and Commit to
Notice that I didn’t say, “Choose your reading list” or “Choose the books…” You don’t need to read through the library to fast-track your personal growth. Actually, reading as many self-development books as you can as fast as possible might just be wasting your effort. Because you shouldn’t be reading a book just to say you read it – you’re reading to absorb information, let it incubate in your mind, and then put its lessons into action.
This is the reason that Wallace D. Wattles, in his book “The Science of Getting Rich,” tells readers to focus on no other system than his while putting the ideas into practice. To do otherwise would confuse and water down the ideas.
Now, I’m not telling you to only read only one book EVER. I read lots of books in a year (and listen to even more audiobooks), but I give some space in between them to sit with what I’ve learned.
So, think about what areas of your life you need to improve and pick something that can help you there. Some books for success I recommend are:
Choose an Event to Attend
Reading books and listening to podcasts are a fantastic way to keep your mind sharp daily, but you live in the world, and the only real way to facilitate real growth is to get out in it.
There is something about going to an event and being surrounded by hundreds or thousands of people in your industry that gets people fired up like nothing else. You’ll get an opportunity to hear things that aren’t shared anywhere else by the best people working in the field, make lifelong connections, build a referral network with people all over the country, and able to fully immerse yourself in your own development for one or more days. Also, our events are just a lot of fun!
The best part is, that we host events all over the country that are tailored to exactly the areas of your business that you need to focus on. If you’re looking to improve and integrate your sales and marketing, there’s no better place to do that than Edge.
Looking for real estate’s biggest, most comprehensive event you could possibly attend? It doesn’t get any bigger than Success Summit. And my new Roadmap Tour is the ultimate one-day intensive training for experienced agents looking to expand their market share.
It doesn’t matter which one you choose. Just visit our Events Page to book one before the end of the year. You’ll be glad to have this to look forward to.
Decide a Role to Hire
Whether you’re a solo agent or you already run a team, I bet something that you put in your long-term goals was, “I want to have the freedom to step away from my business while still generating income.” The only way to do that is to keep continue growing.
You’ve probably seen the news of people getting laid off from their jobs and predictions of further layoffs to come, but in my 30 years of experience, I’ve seen that now is NOT the time you want to be cutting your resources. In hard markets, the companies that retain and continue to hire are almost always the ones who come out on top. That’s why my company is continuing to grow at a rapid pace.
Ask yourself, “What kind of help do I need most right now?” then choose one of these or come up with your own:
- Assistant
- Transaction Coordinator
- Buyers Agent
- Operations Manager
- Marketing Manager
Decide When to Hire a Coach
If you’ve noticed a theme here, it’s that growth doesn’t happen alone. Some people say that growth can only come from within yourself, but I’d bet you that those people also have mentors, teachers, communities, and people helping them to achieve the internal growth they desire.
It’s not a coincidence that real estate agents who work with one of our coaches earn over 10 times the industry standard. We’re talking about direct, one-on-one guidance plus access to the world’s greatest network of real estate resources.
So, in order to check off this box, I’m not telling you that you have to decide to get a coach. All you have to do is decide what it will take for you to make the leap. Maybe it’s:
- When we’re halfway through Q2 and you still haven’t hired someone
- Once you’re earning a certain amount
- When you’ve missed the mark on your business plan targets
- When you finally feel that enough is enough
Whatever it is, good or bad, decide.
The Second Part of This Growth Checklist
Think of this as a list in two parts. The first part is making these decisions, writing them down, and putting them somewhere that you’ll see every day. You shouldn’t have to guess what you’re going to do first thing in the morning or what book you’re going to pick up. This part should be completed before the first of the year, so you’re prepared with your vision and processes for the year ahead.
But the second part is just as important, and you can’t start checking through the boxes right away. It’s actually following through. You need to follow your routines every day, read and reread your book(s), go to the event, hire the help, and get the coach when you reach the point you told yourself you would. You have the next 374 to check off all these boxes.
Best of luck and we’ll be here when you need us!
