In most of my blog posts, we talk about things you should be doing, because growth comes from action. The more positive actions you take, the more you can achieve and the closer you’ll come to successful goal setting.

But in this blog, I want to talk about what’s stopping your growth – and the personal fulfillment you get from your work – because that may be even more important. My good friend Tony Robbins says that sometimes it’s not what you’re willing to do that makes the difference – it’s what you’re no longer willing to stand.
Pay attention to that wording. It’s not, “What are you willing to give up?” It’s not, “What could you cut out?” Those are passive and leave too much wiggle room for you to talk yourself out of. The question is, “What are you no longer willing to tolerate in your life?” When you decide that, you’ve made a commitment to change.
When it comes to figuring out what you’re no longer willing to stand for, I can’t tell you the answer. This is a personal question that only you can identify. But I’ll tell you this…
When I conduct this exercise with my personal coaching clients, it usually has to do with how you’re spending your time and energy.
We need to constantly be coming back to our daily time-audits, look at our time-blocked schedules, and see where we’re going long, where we’re siphoning time that could be better used elsewhere, and looking at the tasks that leave us wiped out. If you haven’t already checked out this article on time blocking, I suggest you do it before we move on.
Now, let’s look at some areas of your life to find the time and energy-sucking vampires that are draining your energy and internal motivation.
If there’s any space in your life where it’s worth cutting out the crap to speed up your momentum, it’s your mornings. Every day you wake up with an immediate opportunity to establish self discipline, practice gratitude, and a winning mindset, and yet too often I hear about agents hitting the snooze button, snacking on a doughnut, and rushing out the door.
For me, a weak morning routine is something I won’t tolerate. No way. Because that’s how you maintain control of your life. But that’s me. You need to establish your own standards, and that’s what this blog is all about… to get you thinking about how you can improve YOUR situation.
So, look at your schedule. Do you see yourself doing any of these:
Which one of these could you replace them with?
Ream more on how to get some extra help in increasing self discipline.
Your Highest and Best Use of time – what’s stopping it? If you’re not a brand-new agent or working on a team, then you’re probably spending too much time on busy work that would be better delegated.
Do you ever find yourself doing administrative work to process a transaction when you know for a fact that your time would be better spent doing marketing and making calls to attract the next client? I wouldn’t stand for that. Because if you do, it’ll never change, and you’ll be forced to think all the time about the sales you missed out on.
Doing something scary now always beats feeling regret later. So, what kind of help do you really need:
Relaxation can suck your energy. That’s right. People always say they need to chill for a bit to recharge, and then what do they do? They watch hours of junk TV, drink too much, or eat foods that are going to make them feel awful later.
On a recent episode of my podcast, Dr. Daniel Amen quoted Drew Carey who once said, “Eating bad food isn’t a reward. It’s a punishment.” Because why would you want to poison your brain and make yourself feel bad later? And this applies to a lot more than just food! It could be unsupportive people or anything. You don’t need to tolerate these forms of self-sabotage.
Could your time be better spent:
If you miss the opportunity to put your foot down and actually make these changes right now, maybe you’re not actually serious.
This is an opportunity for a clean slate where YOU decide the rules.
So, give it some thought and figure out what you want to change, and you know we’ll always be here to help.
